Pleated Texture

I’m loving the variety of design ideas that can be explored with this twisted pleat texture! Have a look at my cushion.

texturedcushion

I decided to go rainbow bright for a added optical illusion. I want to try out smaller, tighter pleats with one subtle colour and also experiment with the pleats running diagonal on the cushion.

As of right now I have spaces available in my textured cushion class. Come along and try this technique out yourself!

Week 2…15/9/13-21/9/13

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and got a chance to relax and get crafty. It is sometimes hard to find time to yourself during the week and it is so important to just take-5 and catch up on some R&R in your hopefully quiet weekends.

Classes continued in our second week with free motion quilting and amigurumi being my personal favorites.

amigurumi fmquilting

Keep an eye on our schedule as I add more classes in the coming weeks. Especially since the task of preparing our Paper Room is now complete! We had a huge collection of paper crafting tools and materials to tidy into our shelf storage. It took a while, mostly because I spent a lot of time stopping and going “Oooo…pretty!!”. The following is merely the tip of the iceberg. Have a look…

Quilling, making albums, playing with the Cricut machine and Big-Shot, stamping, embossing, making cards, book binding and much, much more to happen in this space. What is your dream paper project?

UPDATE – 23/9/13: I have been taking a lot of excited messages asking me about our scrapbook shop. I understand the excitement but need to clarify that although we provide everything you need to complete a paper craft project as part of the classes we offer we are not currently selling tools or materials individually. Stay tuned for more updates as we work towards finding or sourcing scrappy stuff here in Qatar.

Apart from this I have to say that the highlight of our second week was featuring in the Qatar tribune! (Read the article here)

That’s me!

Al Mushiri Co. – Bernina Dealership

Hi everyone!

Today I had to stop by Al Mushiri to pick up some supplies for our Bernina sewing machines. In our sewing room we have 6 Bernina sewing machines (1008 models) and Al Mushiri is our go-to for all our machines needs – feet, needles, accessories and maintenance. They have it all!

I was delighted to see that as well as supplying everything Bernina related they have expanded their sewing stock to include many quilters items such as rotary cutters, cutting mats, grids and rulers and lots of other bits and pieces.

Most exciting was the stock of quilters fabrics. Although the souq (as I have written about before) has a reasonable stock of fabric, for those who are ready and willing to hunt and dig, seeing a good selection of quilters fabrics at Al Mushiri was a real treat!

DSCN3914
Fabrics are selling at 35 Qatar Riyal per meter

Make sure you head down for a look and shop. Jonathan behind the Bernina desk will be ready and willing to assist you. Or give him a call on 77131068 if you have any Bernina related questions.

To find Al Mushiri is very easy. It is marked on the map below – you want to turn right onto the service road/carpark directly after Ibn Al Atheer Street, which is the first street on your right as you come off the roundabout under the Al Jaidah flyover heading towards the civil defense roundabout. Look out for the big ‘Al Mushiri Co.’ sign.

The building occupies the whole front of the block. There is parking in front but it is limited. You may need to circle around and park in the side street if you come at a busy time…although it is hard to say when that is!

Week 1

A lot of hard work and planning has paid off in what has been a great first week here at Inspiration Station. It all started on Saturday 7th September with our open day craft market. It was so exciting to see such creative talent all under one roof. We had vendors selling their handmade items, from crochet toys, kids clothes, paintings, jewelry, bookmarks, photography, furniture and so much more. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved. It was lovely to meet all the vendors and see connections being made between such talented individuals. And thank you to everyone who came along and supported us. I hope you all enjoyed the market and all of your purchases!

The market was such a success that we will definitely be looking at hosting more events like this in the future. If you are someone who would like to sell at a market like this please email us your details and we will add you to our mailing list for this in the future.

Classes began on the Sunday and throughout this week some wonderful work has been produced. I hope all of our first students have had a good time!

Remember to keep an eye on our class schedule for upcoming classes. Also, if you have something you particularly want to learn or make then let us know. We are happy to look at scheduling a session with your request in mind.

So all in all we have been settling into the new space and things are looking really good.

cozy sewing wet

Our paper room is still under construction. There is a huge (and very exciting) collection of stamps and punches and papers and stickers and gadgets and stencils and…and…so many lovely things to tidy into shelves ready for you to play with! So look out for the unveiling of this room soon!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. Bring on week 2!!

Craft Market

With only two weeks to go until our grand opening (EEK! So excited!!) I wanted to introduce you to a few of the fabulous crafters who will be selling their wonderful things in our craft market.

Remember:

Saturday, September 7th, 8:30am to 1:30pm

Be there!

As well as shopping at the following crafty/arty stalls we will have food and drinks for sale, some inspirational demonstrations and the opportunity to sign up for our classes in the coming weeks. It is going to be heaps of fun and hopefully very inspirational!

See you soon!

And more…

Cushions!

They are cuddly, supportive and look fantastic. No, not the guy/girl of your dreams…I’m talking cushions!

Cushions are a quick, easy and effective way to liven up a space with a splash of color and texture. They are also super easy to make and can provide you with endless opportunity to put your personal touch in the home. Start searching for cushion tutorials and you will see what I mean! In fact – check out our Pinterest page ‘Live it’ and let us do the searching for you.

But every once in a while the perfect cushion is right there in a shop, ready for you to buy. This is what happened to me not too long ago. I was meandering through Debenhams in City Centre when I came across these beautiful babies.

The paint tubes and brushes are a printed design, the pencils are chain stitch embroidery.
The paint tubes and brushes are a printed design, the pencils are chain stitch embroidery.

I instantly thought “COZY ROOM!!”. They are perfect for Inspiration Station. So look forward to a snuggle with these in the not too distant future.

(Even better they were on special – buy 2 get one free!! It was fate…)
