About melschade

By day I am a high school Art and Design teacher...the rest of the time I make stuff. I draw, paint, doodle, sew, build, play, edit, publish, design, experiment, photograph, manipulate, sculpt, think...the list goes on.

Officially introducing Aly

10967_537232113045319_1631736416874534895_nOfficially welcoming Aly, the new face and voice behind Inspiration Station operations in Qatar. She will be the one answering the phone, chatting to you here on Facebook, sending emails and getting to know you around town. Although Mel has returned to New Zealand permanently (and is missing everyone greatly) she will be staying in touch as an Inspiration Station long distance correspondent.

So, give Aly a big, friendly (and official) welcome

Well, it has been a long and busy summer and you have probably been wondering what has been happening over here in ‘Inspiration Station World’. Let me get you up to date…

We would like to start off by saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!”

Yes, it is our birthday tomorrow. 1 year ago we opened our doors, hosting an exciting craft market and welcoming everyone, from beginners to experts, to join classes in all things crafty. We thank everyone who was there that special day and those that have come by every day since. It has been a great adventure and many friends have been made!

Unfortunately, today we must announce that those doors are officially going to be closed. Due circumstances out of our control our location is no longer available for use. Despite efforts over the summer to find a suitable alternative we are yet to secure a new space for hosting classes and events.

But all is not lost!! (This is called a good-news sandwich). Inspiration Station is not going to just disappear! Our goals have not changed and our drive is not diminished. Inspiration Station set out to share information, inspire creativity and help people learn new skills. So, with a slight shift in direction we will still hope to reach the same aims.

We have a thriving online community and we hope you will stay with us. A new website is on its way with lots of features to help us continue to reach our goal – to inspire!

More details coming soon…

Much love and inspiration from,

Closed for the summer

Hello everyone!

Please note that Inspiration Station will regrettably be closed from now over the summer. We will keep posting on Facebook and updating our blog over the next couple of months so stay tuned! Lots of exciting things will be happening when we open again in early September and we can’t wait to tell you more about that soon. Keep in touch, share your holiday projects and most of all stay inspired! And if you are travelling have a wonderful and safe trip.

See you again soon,

from the Inspiration Station team

Time Out

DSC00049Currently very excited to be featured in the March issue of Time Out Doha.

Read the article online!

I picked up a few copies to save for the scrapbook (that I can create in our paper room!). We are still within our first year of operation and it is so satisfying to hit little milestones like this, when other people get as excited about Inspiration Station as I do and I can see the seeds planted over the past year starting to blossom! We have dreamt big and have great ambitions for Inspiration Station.

Once again I would like to thank everyone who has got in behind our little oasis of creativity and helped it grow. May it continue to do so…

Pleated Texture

I’m loving the variety of design ideas that can be explored with this twisted pleat texture! Have a look at my cushion.

I decided to go rainbow bright for a added optical illusion. I want to try out smaller, tighter pleats with one subtle colour and also experiment with the pleats running diagonal on the cushion.

As of right now I have spaces available in my textured cushion class. Come along and try this technique out yourself!
